IN DIVISION 1 of the Weston and District Table Tennis League, Winsc Rebel’s last league match of the season was always going to be difficult.

Rob Hansen lost to Walton Wanderers’ Mike Harris in three, followed by a win by Dave Hunt over Wanderers’ Brian Pearson also in three. This was how the match went with advantage going first one way and then the other.

Hansen’s win over Pearson put Rebels 5-4 up at the doubles. Hansen and Hunt won the first, but the Wanderers’ Harris and Pearson pulled ahead taking the next three games and levelling the match 5-5.

Vets A still with games in hand had an 8-2 win over Totterdown C, Peter Butterworth and Roger Crump both with all their singles combined in the doubles for a 3-1 win over Mark Price and Gary Chell. Price and Chell both had beaten Vets’ Ann Sandford. Totterdown’s Kiem Mu had some close games against the Vets, but came away without a point.

Totterdown’s Mark Price and Gary Chell were a two-man team against Winsc Renegades with close games against Paul Hayward, Dave Williams running out winners over Phil Yates. The 3-1 doubles went to Williams and Hayward giving Renegades an 8-2 match win.

In Division 2, Vets C having played their last league match, have to wait for other team’s results to see where they finish in the league table.

Against Totterdown Flamingos they won 26-8. Gary Evry took top place with three wins, only after a tough five games against Flamingos’ Nigel Andrews. Andrews won his two other singles against Mark Treasure and Tony Chedgy. Treasure and Evry won a 3-0 doubles against Lyudmilla Cronin and Trevor Williams.

Totterdown Daemons with several games still to play had a winning 24-16 match over Vets C. Veteran player Bert Hiscock in fine form won all three losing just one game to Vets’ Gary Evry. Evry was top scorer for Vets with two.

Mark Treasure unlucky after two five game encounters against Paul Harding and Mike Summers was unable to take the winning shot. Hiscock and Harding won the doubles 3-1 over Evry and Treasure.

C & C Cobras finished on a high, beating Totterdown Flamingos 30-2, who only had two players. Trevor Williams and Aluda Cronin had some close games against Cobras, Williams winning one game from John Barker, Cronin with a game from Rick Hutchinson.
