THE Somerset Cases Rebels are currently top of the Premier League after their 52-41 win over Plymouth at the Oaktree Arena.

The Rebels are well set for a top six finish to earn themselves a place in the end of season championship play-offs.

The title will be decided in a grand final between the winners of the two groups of three teams. Somerset will have the incentive if they can retain top spot, they will have the choice of the two other teams in the group stage.

The Rebels have two home matches left to complete the main league programme, against Sheffield tomorrow (Fri) and Workington on Friday week.

Against Plymouth, the Rebels were made to work hard. Despite taking maximum points from the first two heats with Kyle Newman and Jason Doyle taking the honours, Plymouth were only five points adrift going into the final four heats.

Somerset finished strongly with Doyle and Claus Vissing taking vital points. Overall, the Rebels provided the first man home in 10 of the 15 races.

Doyle only dropped one point in five races and reserve Newman was on top form with four wins as he top scored with 14 (paid 16) points.

The Rebels were hit with the news that their captain, Jason Doyle, suffered a suspected broken jaw whilst riding in Poland, which, if confirmed, would see him sidelined from action as the Rebels head into the Premier League play-offs.

To coincide with the local schools re-opening after the summer break, the Rebels have introduced a ‘kids for a quid’ initiative that will run for their next two home Premier League meetings against Sheffield and Workington.

The scheme is available to all under-16s provided they are accompanied by a paying adult and is restricted to two children per adult.
