Team Mendip Red Sox were held to a draw by local rivals Clevedon.

TEAM Mendip Red Sox played local rivals Clevedon in a close-fought match.

Mendip went straight for the win from the first whistle, out-playing their opponents for most of the first-half. Mendip were rewarded for their great passing when Annabel Cunningham scored from a corner to put Mendip 1-0 ahead.

The second half saw more of the same Mendip dominance, but they could not find a second goal. Against the run of play, Clevedon found an equaliser to finish the game all square.

Mendip girls should be proud of how they played and how far they have improved in just a season, especially as Mendip lost the corresponding fixture last season 6-0.

Frankie and Bennys girl of the game went to Cunningham for a great performance.

A battling performance by Mendip Under-10s saw a great game of football against a talented Portishead team.

The game started with action going from end to end, after good saves from the Portishead goalie from Lilly Stephens and Bonnie Gready, Mendip went 3-0 down after 15 minutes.

However, the girls battled hard in the second half and some excellent defending meant no change to the score. At the other end, Alysha Forsbrook and Gready went close to scoring with Stephens hitting the Portishead post from a corner.

Thanks go to Jessica Selwyn, Abbie Delafield and Alysha for taking turns in goal.

South West Property Maintenance girl of the game went to Stephens.
