TWO good winning matches for Winsc Renegades put them in striking distance of the top place in the Archdale's Group A. The first was against Winsc Rebels who were playing their last match, Renegades winning by a convincing 8-1. Gary Cattermole (-3) and Trevor Jones (-1) both took three, Dave Williams (1) with two lost in three to Rob Hansen (2). Rebels' Steve Wilcox (4) and Dave Hunt (-1) despite close games were unable to take points. The last match for top of the group Vets A was against Renegades who raced away from the start, Cattermole and Jones again taking all three. Paul Hayward (-3) lost to Peter Butterworth (-2) in two and Roger Crump (0) in three. Renegades go through 7-2.In Group B, the Cleeve and Claverham match between Vipers and Division 2 Cobras turned out to be made up of all Cobras players, three of whom turned out for Vipers resulting in a good match with all players similarly handicapped. Vipers' James Bessant (15) won all his contests, losing just one game to Simon Thomas (14). Warren Taylor (15), two wins lost to Cobras' Rick Hutchinson (12). Vipers' Jade Cope (15) beat Thomas, losing to Callum Parkins (15) and Hutchinson. Vipers took the match 6-3.Flamingos beat Winsc Warriors 6-3, keeping their second place and with a match in hand also hopes alive of top place. It was a good night for Nigel Andrews (9), taking all three. Graham Cheeseman (10) with two lost to Warriors' Dave Parker (12). Cath Smith (13) completed Warriors' three points by beating Andy Romoff (13).In League Division 1, Vets A's Roger Crump had a long evening with all his singles and doubles going to five games. His excellent match against Renegades' Gary Cattermole was exciting, unequalled this season with high standard attack and defence, Crump coming through 11-9. Colin Lewis beat Dave Williams 11-9 in the fourth. Ann Sandford, unlucky in her singles, combined with Crump in a lengthy doubles to just lose out 11-5 to Cattermole and Paul Hayward. Renegades won the match 7-3.Final matches for both C & C Cobras and Winsc Wayfarers saw the Winsc team finish their season 26-10, Simon Kneeshaw and Phil Yates winning all three singles, Kneeshaw without loss, Yates losing a game to Jade Cope and two to Rick Hutchinson. Rich Parker went down to James Bessant. Some consolation for Cobras, finishing with a 3-2 doubles win, Hutchinson and Bessant winning out over Kneeshaw and Parker.
