CHEDDAR Valley Rifle Club's winter season results saw the A team finish fifth in Division 1 of the Somerset County League, the B team fourth in Division 2 and Tom Paisey second in Junior Division 1.

CHEDDAR Valley Rifle Club's winter season results saw the A team finish fifth in Division 1 of the Somerset County League, the B team fourth in Division 2 and Tom Paisey second in Junior Division 1.

In the Individual League, Dan Barritt is second in Division 3 and Gaynor Avery third in Division 4.

The remaining competitors in the Somerset Knockout competitions and who have reached the semi-final stage are Ruth Bell in the Ladies' Sally Lunn Cup and the team of eight in the Davey Cup.

The A team are ninth in Division 2 of the Bristol and District League and in this Association's cup competitions, Mike Griffin won the Godfrey Watson trophy and Ruth Bell the Ladies' Cup. Gaynor Avery was third in the Eastville Cup, Paula Marks fifth in the Caxton Bowl, Ruth Bell second in the Wheeler's Cup, Keith Thickett fifth and Ruth Bell sixth in the Horace Walker Trophy.

Six members competed in South West Championships at Okehampton in March with successes for Gaynor Avery who was first in the D class for Ladies and for Mike Griffith, Keith Thickett and Trevor Paisey coming second in the team event.

The first competition to open this summer's outdoor season was the Torfaen meeting at Long Ashton. Shot over a distance of 50 metres, Mike Griffin was second in the top class and Ruth Benn second in the C class. Also competing were Keith Thickett, Trevor Paisey, Gaynor Avery and Simon Ellis.

The club's annual general meeting, concluding with the presentation of trophies and medals, is on Wednesday, May 20, at 7.30pm at the Bath Arms Hotel, Cheddar.

Cheddar Valley Rifle Club is an established and fully approved .22 calibre target rifle shooting club with its own complex in the village, comprising 25-yard indoor range and clubroom.

We welcome new members, minimum age 14 years. All equipment needed is provided by the club, which is open on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays from 7.30-11pm.
