BURNHAM’S emerging side showed they are beginning to gel in more and more departments.

The hosts set the ball rolling after catching Whitehall offside just four minutes into the game, with Tim Piper duly amassing the points. They extended their lead when Pope break allowed Burnham to create successful phases before Alec Chase crashed over out wide, Piper converted for a 10-0 lead.

On the stroke of half-time, Whitehall put together a series of rucks and mauls before creating an overlap for the full-back to score a converted try.

After the break, Burnham created a marvellous team try with both forwards and backs involved, until Danny Spelman rounded the opposition to score under the posts. Piper adding the extras.

However, Whitehall were not to be denied and scored another converted try. For the rest of the game, Burnham’s scrum gained the upper hand and Jordan Wikiteria took advantage to cross the line, converted by Piper.

THE seconds started confidently and took the lead with a penalty by Burnham skipper Will Conway.

However, this seemed to kick Wells into action and this led to some great defence by Burnham, notably some big tackles by Matt Bonnell. Wells scored three tries before the break to lead 19-3.

In the second half, an injury led to uncontested scrums, which suited Burnham. George Scott secured good line-out ball, allowing the backs into the game.

Harry Marks and Mason Shaw made good yards, but it was a kick and chase by debutant development squad player Felix Grandfield which started a phase of attack play.

This released Elliot Donnelly to use his pace to finish in the corner. However, as Burnham tired Wells finished the game out with a converted try.
