Burnham gave a fine performance to defeat Chew Valley.

Chew Valley 7 pts

Burnham 17 pts

AN EXHILARATING match saw Burnham produce their best in every aspect of the game, with everyone playing their part.

Chew Valley kicked and initially showed why they were in the top four of the league and with a much heavier pack than Burnham, they were able to provide their backs with quality ball and after six minutes, their fly-half cut through a gap and scored close to the posts for a converted try.

After that, the hosts could not break down the Burnham line and as Burnham gained confidence, they came back with a vengeance. Gaining a penalty and securing line-out possession, Jordan Wikiteria showed his strength and agility to stretch out his arm and score a try, converted by Piper.

Burnham continued to pressurise Chew Valley, who eventually transgressed, giving Piper the chance to convert a penalty.

Five minutes after the restart, Burnham’s determined rolling maul created a hole on the blind side for Richard Muskett to score out wide. Piper managed to use the swirling wind to add the extra points for a 17-7 lead.

From then on, Burnham’s discipline kept Chew Valley at bay, leaving Burnham worthy winners after a splendid performance.

Head coach Graham Buller expressed his delight by saying Burnham were the better side because they were more disciplined, had stronger character, more determination and stuck to their game plan for the duration of the match.

Burnham are at home on Saturday to Avon, kick-off 2.15pm.
