Hornets Colts recorded a narrow league victory over Keynsham.

HORNETS Colts welcomed Keynsham to The Nest for a league match and recorded a narrow 19-14 victory.

Hornets started the better, with Bate, Richardson and Francis showing they have played as a unit for a while, along with the older Locker and Hartley, who were both outstanding all day.

Hornets’ pressure had Keynsham pinned in their own half. A 22 drop-out by the visitors was gathered by a rampaging Hornets pack and slick hands set Osborne clear for the first score.

Osborne gathered a kick under his own posts and the full-back set off on a fantastic counter-attack, reaching the 10-metre line and the comfort of his forwards. They took over and a series of classic rucks followed and the ball was set up for the backs to spring into action.

Holyday’s perfect chip through was gathered by Turner in top gear, who then delivered a well-timed pass back to Holyday to run in another superb try, converted by Humphris.

After the break, Keynsham threw everything at Hornets and some of the defence was breathtaking as the quality level went up a notch as the visitors scored a try.

Just as Keynsham sensed more scores, Hornets hit back with a classic counter-punch and winger Hill was able to round the defence and go under the posts to make an easy conversion for Osborne.

Keynsham’s big pack got another try, but were unable to add to this as Hornets’ defence was solid as the game finished 19-14 to Hornets.

Locker and Richardson never stopped in their endeavours and there was a quality game by Osborne, but the hard games don’t stop as the team now has a National Colts’ Cup match to look forward to in two weeks time.
