Bristol Saracens 8 pts Gordano 15 ptsBRISTOL Saracens met Gordano in the semi-final of the Combination Vase. Played on a rain-soaked pitch, Gordano kicked off and Saracens spilled the ball in the wet conditions, with field position Gordano piled on pressure, moving the ball left then right and from a breakdown Jon Andrews released Lee Palmer out wide, who went over under the posts, and kicked the conversion. Soon after, Palmer added a penalty. With Palmer and Dicky Mason kicking well, Saracens were again pinned back in their own half, having kicked clear Gordano took full advantage of their throw at the line-out to drive over for a Neil Steer try. Saracens began to take the game to Gordano, working the pick and drive well and attacking the fringes as they worked to within five yards of the Gordano line, but good defence kept them out. At 15-0 up, Gordano turned round with confidence knowing one more score should seal the win. However an early infringement gifted Saracens a penalty and as Gordano took the game back to Saracens they fell foul of the referee with persistent infringement, allowing Saracens to pin them back in their own half. Again the Gordano defence held firm, but the blind side winger broke through the defence with strong running to go over in the corner. The final will be played on Thursday, April 13, at Clifton Rugby Club against Frampton Cotterill or Broad Plain, kick off 7.30 and support will be both welcome and appreciated.
