Hornets Under-16s lost by just two points against Chepstow, going down to a late converted try.

HORNETS Under-16s travelled to Chepstow for their first match of the season with a 20-man squad.

Unfortunately, Chepstow only had 14, so thanks go to Lewis and Liam for playing half a game each for Chepstow.

In an evenly-matched game, Chepstow led at 24-17 at half-time. Hornets fought their way back into the game leading 36-31 until a few minutes from the end when Chepstow scored a converted try to win the match 38-36.

Try scorers were Nick H (2), Casper, Callum and Tommy and Casper also converted three tries. Jordan scored on his debut and was also named man of the match.

The Under-15s started their season with a three-way fixture at home against Keynsham and Clevedon.

The first game was against Keynsham and Quentin Querl broke the deadlock with a fine individual try. On the stroke of half-time, Hornets executed a training ground move which resulted in Querl scoring and Bradley Lucas adding the conversion.

After the break, Luke Collins was first to score, followed by Ayden Chenoweth. Nathan Langdon popped up on the end of several phases to score.

The final try scored by Chenoweth was set up by a superb offload by Josh Edwards, as Hornets ran out 32-0 winners.

The second game saw Clevedon score first following some weak tackling, but Hornets bounced back scoring through Collins. Clevedon took the lead again, but Hornets responded well with Chenoweth scoring before half time.

After the break, Clevedon scored, but Hornets replied again with Querl getting his third of the morning. Clevedon took the lead once more with five minutes remaining and with two minutes left, the ball was spread wide for Charlie Fairhurst to level the match at 20 points each.
