Hornets seconds claim third position

Hornets 2nd XV finished third in Somerset 1 after a comfortable victory over Old Reds.

HORNETS 2nd XV finished the season with a six-try romp over relegated Old Reds.
This cemented third place in Somerset 1 at the end of their debut season at this level, aided by 21 bonus points, four more than the league winners.
Hornets started briskly and Owens kicked an early penalty, soon followed by a try from Hallett. Owens scored the next try after good line-out work from Leahy, Speller and Dorrington.
Old Reds replied with a try before Hallett cross for his second, converted by Owens. Hornets were reduced to 14 men when Sheridan was yellow carded, but Hornets held a 20-5 lead at the break.
Four minutes into the second half, Leahy touched down, followed by a try for Reseigh, converted by Owens. Team changes allowed Old Reds to bring the score back to 32-17, before some 15-man rugby put Owens in for his second of the game.

THE thirds travelled to Taunton to play Wyvern for their final match of the season.
The visitors took the lead when scrum-half Damian Hewlett took a quick tap and dived over for the first score.
The home side replied with a converted try, but Hornets scored again through a converted try by Brad Ashfield.
In the second half, three yellow cards between the two sides were issued and both sides took their chances when the advantage was in their favour.
Prop Alistair Roberts broke through from close range, converted again by Ashfield, and fellow prop James Gould scored another outstanding try for Hornets.
The home side were awarded a penalty try which they converted to snatch victory. Hornets finished the season in seventh position.
