A broken wrist by a Hornets player affected the result against Bridgwater.
HORNETS Under-15s welcomed Bridgwater to Hutton Moor knowing that a tough, physical game was in store.
Hornets started brightly but superb defence kept themout. Numerous attacks were cancelled out by Bridgwater. Cocking, Fitzpatrick and Tanner were forcing turnovers and when Richardson launched, he was knocked over.
Solomon, Foroughi and Keane Williams surged but to no avail. Hornets were then hit by a breakout to run the length of the field to score. This fired up Hornets and Solomon set the back line moving and quick hands put Turner in the corner.
Hornets kept up the pressure and a quick tap penalty from Solomon to Richardson found big Jim Constable at pace to round for a superb try.
The second half started well for Bridgwater and their strong-running backs were fed by aggressive forwards to score a couple of tries. The game was marred by a serious arm injury to Blake Williams, which was later diagnosed as a broken wrist.
This affected Hornets concentration and a couple more injuries made for a hard 20 minutes as Bridgwater ran out 33-10 winners.
The Under-14s travelled to play St Brendans in the Combination Cup, but were beaten 31-5.
Despite dominating possession in the first-half, Hornets found themselves 12-5 down at the break. Captain Ryan Walters, Tyler Hayes and Nick Hitchins caused St Brendans problems throughout.
St Brendans scored four second half tries, all from their own try line, after a dropped pass or loose ball. Andy Meakin, Sam Foster both had outstanding games.
The team are looking to improve. If you are under 14 and want to play rugby, training is on Wednesday nights (6pm) at Hornets Rugby Club. Contact Dave on 01934 513966 for further details.
