Hornettes ladies were held to a draw in their first match of the season.

HORNETTES ladies team travelled to North Petherton for their first game of the season.

From the initial kick-off, both teams showed their intent to play wide attacking rugby. Petherton scored the first try of the game as Hornettes missed a couple of tackles and allowed them to get in behind their defence.

Immediately from the restart, Hornettes put together a wide flowing move with some slick passing between forwards and backs which was ended by Kerrianne Williams, who cut several clever lines to score in the corner.

Petherton responded by their forwards driving down the pitch, and despite Hornettes managing to rip the ball and beginning to counter attack, an interception on their own 22 allowed Petherton to retake the lead.

Hornettes drove towards the Petherton line causing them to slow the ball down. From the resulting penalty, Abbey Constable received a short pass to crash across the line to level the scores.

Petherton re-took the lead when the next Hornettes attack broke down, allowing the hosts to score under to posts, kicking the conversion.

Hornettes showed great determination and following a good combined forwards and backs move, Petherton infringed close to the line. A quick penalty allowed Emma Small to take a short pass at pace to score under the posts. The conversion was scored by Laura Clarke bringing the score at half time to 17-17.

The second half showed both teams attacking hard, but good defending led to no further scoring.
