Hornettes recorded a comfortable 46-0 victory at Ivel, their first match of the new year.
HORNETTES travelled to Ivel for the first game of the new year and came away with a comfortable 46-0 victory.
The visitors started well as from the first scrum, the backs moved the ball out wide and then passed inside to flanker Sara Curtis to score, Emma Small converting the try. Ten minutes later from the first line-out, the forwards secured quick ball which the backs moved quickly down the line for full-back Georgina Liddington to score in the corner.
Towards the end of the half, Hornettes were awarded a penalty on halfway. Small kicked for touch, but the ball landed just infield and bounced up into the arms of Kerianne Williams, who had chased up hard and powered over the line to take the score to 0-17 at half-time.
Hornettes started the second half well when Abbey Constable offloaded to Charlotte Cooper-Cocks to score. Ivel replied with a period of sustained pressure and spent some time in the Hornettes half.
The shackles were released when Sara Curtis turned the ball over from a ruck, broke several tackles and offloaded to Cooper-Cocks, who drew a penalty from the last-ditch defence.
From this, Constable crashed over the line carrying a couple of defenders with her. As the Hornettes worked back up the pitch from the kick-off, they secured good ball from an attacking line-out for Georgina Liddington to release Amy Attree to run in and score from 40 metres.
Shortly after, Hornettes were awarded another penalty and Constable powered through several tackles before releasing Cooper-Cocks to score under the posts, allowing Small to convert the try.
From the kick-off, the ball collected by Liddington, who slipped a couple of tackles and ran round the tiring defenders to score close to the posts, with Small converting the try, taking the final score to 0-46 to Hornettes.
