HORNETTES ladies entertained Dorchester at home in their fourth league game. Unfortunately, the visitors turned up with only 11 players, which meant the Hornettes had to match them.

They played with five in the pack and six backs. There were plenty of treats in store for the Hornettes in the form of tries, but no tricks as it was all down to good solid tackling, great ball handling and good running.

The scoring was opened by fly-half MJ Jenkins after eight minutes when she danced through the defence. This was the first of her hat-trick and the first of eight tries for the home team.

The Hornettes kept up the pressure in the first half and there were four more tries coming from captain Tanya Carver-Cox running in from 40 metres, Kerianne Williams, Jenkins and Leann Elkins.

At the break, the score was 29-0, but Dorchester came back strongly in the second half and managed to cross the try line twice after continued pressure in the Hornettes 22, while the hosts added another 21 points during the half.

The last try of the match went to Jenkins as she finished off what she had started. Julie Hill converted five of the tries.

This was a great team performance, but there were some outstanding individual performances too, especially Kerianne Williams who was playing at scrum-half for the first time, Kristy-lee Silva at No 3, Zoe Fisher at No 1 and hooker Julie Hill.

Back of the match was Kerianne Williams.

Forward of the match was the front row of Zoe Fisher, Julie Hill and Kristy-lee Silva.

Any ladies aged 18 or over interested in joining Hornettes, please contact Tanya Carver-Cox on 079323 20966 or come down to training at Hornets RFC on Wednesdays from 6.45pm. All are welcome, beginners or experienced.
