Winscombe 31 pts Imperial 17 ptsWINSCOMBE made a promising start against the visitors, applying a significant amount of pressure in the first 10 minutes with captain Mike Vowles skilfully tripping over the line for the first points of the match. From broken play, the ball was moved quickly by James Carter, down the back line to George House who turned on the gas and ran in from the halfway line, converted by Carter. Imperial began to pick up momentum by changing strategy and applying pressure through their strength, the pack. This forced Winscombe to give away some poor penalties, and the pressure was awarded with two tries by Imperial to make the half time score 12-10 to Winscombe. Winscombe came back out after the break with a rejuvenated vigour which saw the pack competing up front on more of an even basis. The strengthened platform allowed Winscombe to provide clean ball to the backs which allow James Flower to side-step a number of defenders before scuttling over the line to score which was converted by Carter. This was shortly followed by a clean break by Josh Furniss who gave a perfectly weighted pass for Carter to run under the posts and convert. Imperial again began to apply pressure up front, but some awesome defending by the pack and Carter ensured this was in vain.Further pressure by Winscombe led to a mistake by Imperial allowing Carter to intercept and run from the opposition's 10-metre line and fall over the line for a try. Imperial, however, never gave up and came back in the last five minutes and scored a try to make the final score 31-17.
