Weston Rugby Club hosted the annual touch rugby world cup tournament at Drove Road.

It was the second year that the tournament had been held and this year the tournament hosted 250 players across 24 teams, compared to last year’s six. There were two tournaments run simultaneously, one for the years 3-4 group and one for the years 5-6 group.

There were 12 schools involved, each entering a team for the two age groups. Each school also represented a country in keeping with the World Cup theme.

Weston senior and colts players refereed games and had their work cut out keeping up with the pace of play employed by all the teams.

The end of the day culminated with all teams taking centre stage in the Reko Sports inflatable pitch. Cup, Plate and Bowl champions for each age group were announced and were presented with their trophies by Weston committee members George Papworth and Rod Crocker.

Results - Year 3-4 - cup champions: St Georges; plate champions: St Marks; bowl champions: Oldmixon. Year 5-6: St Marks; Windwhistle; Bournville.

The rugby club would like to extend their congratulations and thanks to all schools, players, parents and teachers for making the day so enjoyable.
