Clevedon 10 pts Weston 19 ptsWESTON were reduced to 12 players during the second half of this match at Coleridge Vale, but they managed to hang on to their nine point advantage to produce their 14th win of the season in South West 1.As Clevedon were striving for a desperately needed score, three visiting players were yellow carded by referee Stuart Turner.Alec Chase, Matthew McQuaid and Mike Lowis were all sent to the sin bin for various offences, but Weston kept their nerve, and, having scored three tries to one, their victory was just about deserved.The hosts started strongly with Jeff Durrant's charge from a line-out but Dan Hawkes was unable to convert a 25 metre penalty, and by the time the match was 15 minutes old, Weston had scored twice.Good work by McQuaid and James Reid gave a corner try to Matthew Burns and two minutes later, the 19-year-old wing was on hand to take full advantage of a fortuitous bounce to score at the posts.Reid converted the second but Neil Tucker's pack kept Clevedon on the offensive for Hawkes to kick a 38 metre penalty for an interval scoreline of 3-12.Home centres Ashley Vailes and Tom Thie were keeping Weston's defence occupied but a fumbled pass gave Paul Sprague the chance to run 50 metres to the line for a crucial try which Reid converted.But, aided by some wayward Weston kicking, Clevedon applied pressure, and the visitors' yellow cards were punished with John Pearce's try, Hawkes converting.Weston increased their efforts in the final quarter and could have added to their score, but in a match highlighted by poor goal kicking, Reid was unable to convert any of his four penalty attempts.Clevedon: S Johnson, B Ford, A Vailes, T Thie, S Johns, D Hawkes, D Filby, N Tucker, J Morgan, J Pearce, J Durrant, N Bridle, W McMillan, B Stone, S Barnes (T Lisney 57 mins).
