Weston Under-15s got their season off to a winning start against a competitive Frampton Cotterell team.
Weston started the quickest and put 24 points on the score board before Frampton Cotterell came back to score two well-taken tries.
Dominic Marshall was the first Weston player to cross the line following strong scrummaging by the Weston pack. The Weston forwards were dominant at the scrum and ruck for most of the first-half, with a number of good carries from Andy Turner, Brooklyn Chamberlain, Toby Maleham and Euan Braidwood.
Next on the score sheet was Kyron Pearce, who picked the ball up after Frampton Cotterell failed to clear, with Lewis Patterson scoring the conversion. Weston’s third try was scored by Paterson after good work by Toby Maleham.
The final Weston try of the first-half was well taken by Andy Turner and converted by Paterson. Frampton Cotterell hit back with two tries, with one converted to make the score 24-12.
After the break, Frampton Cottrell could not make their possession count and it was Weston who scored next from a good back move which ended with Pearce crossing the line, with Paterson converting from a tight angle.
Matty Abed was next to score on his debut for the club and the final scorer for Weston was Harry Strutt, who ran in from long range. Frampton’s only score of the second half came in the last play of the game to make the final score 41-17.
Matty Abed, Ruben Picardo and Jay Ewens all made their debuts and all made valuable contributions to the game, but the man of the match award went to Toby Maleham.
