Winscombe Under-18 Girls defeated Devonport Services in a close encounter, with several county and regional players on show for each team.

Winscombe Under-18s Girls entertained Devonport Services and with a number of county and regional players on show for each team, this was always going to be a close and hotly-contested match.

Devonport were first to score with a converted try, their powerful forwards dominating play in the centre of the pitch. After a period of stalemate, Winscombe gradually exerted pressure, winning the territorial battle with astute kicking and some excellent line-out work.

Winscombe centre Jess Cooksey was the first to capitalise on this, running an excellent line to score under the posts, Lucy Burgess adding the conversion.

Soon after, Florence Long collected a loose ball after another strong attack down the left to score in the corner.

Devonport gathered themselves at half-time and soon brought the scores to within a couple of points with a penalty kick.

There was a clear sense that whoever scored next would take the game and so it proved. After a period of sustained pressure inside the Devonport 22, the ball found its way to Winscombe flanker Liliana Podpadec, who burst through and with outstretched arm scored near the posts, Hannah Delbridge added the conversion. Devonport were to score a consolation try at the death, but too late to effect the outcome of this fine match.
