Four late tries gave Winscombe victory over Old Reds.

Winscombe 47 pts

Old Reds 20 pts

WINSCOMBE defeated Old Reds with four converted tries in the last quarter.

In the first quarter, Winscombe had only managed to briefly get out of their half with two breakaways and were suddenly 7-0 in the lead after James Flower scored a try, converted by Owen Howell

Another Winscombe breakaway saw Lewis Podpadec steal the opposition ball and make good ground. Quick recycling created an overlap and fast hands sent Flower away for his second converted try on 27 minutes.

Soon after the restart, some sloppy back play gifted Reds an easy three points, but Winscombe responded with a try for Thomas, after good work by Howell and Simon Thompson.

Winscombe immediately conceded three successive penalties and this presented Reds with a further three points to see the home side lead 19-6 at the break.

Turning around with the wind at their backs it was looking bright for Winscombe, but by the end of the third quarter they found themselves a point in arrears as Reds scored two converted tries.

Just when it looked as though the momentum was turning, Winscombe proceeded to run in four tries, all converted by Howell as their forwards found another gear.

The first came on 65 minutes as Thomas drove over from a ruck for his second try. Eight minutes later a strong tackle by substitute Aaron Ford allowed Thomas to set up Flower to cross for his third.

With only a couple of minutes left on the clock, substitute flanker Will Higginbottom sold an outrageous dummy to go in under the posts.
