Winscombe ran out comfortable winners at Wiveliscombe.
Wiveliscombe 19 pts
Winscombe 27 pts
WINSCOMBE started well against Wiveliscombe and were 13-0 up after only 14 minutes, eventually running out 27-19 winners.
Steve Pugh opened the scoring on three minutes with a penalty from in front of the posts. Soon after, good work by Will Thomas and Callum Stewart sent Rhys Lewis racing to the corner.
Winscombe increased their lead when Lewis Podpadec made a break down the short side to put Thomas over in the corner. The home side hit back with a try in the corner to narrow the lead.
Turning to face the elements only eight points up, Winscombe could not have wished for a better start. From a strike against the head, Thomas fed Podpadec and when he was stopped just short, Thomas barged over the line for a try converted by Pugh.
Wiveliscombe responded with some direct running and scored again from a line-out maul. A touchline conversion brought them to within eight points with twenty-six minutes to play.
Midfield incursions by Stewart and Lewis from successive scrummages and a drive by Simon Thomson produced room for Pugh to put Cameron Lapes away for a try, converted by Pugh.
The sting had been taken out of Wiveliscombe, but they managed to score again in the final minute after a driving.
