Yatton 37 pts Old Centralians 10 ptsCONSTANT rain threatened to spoil open play for both sides for this Western Counties North League encounter, but Old Cs were first on the scoreboard through Craig Anderson's penalty on five minutes.Towards the end of the first quarter, Yatton's pressure in a series of five-yard scrums resulted in Gareth Walters crashing through to give Yatton the lead, and their purple patch came in the last 10 minutes of the first half.Mike Harris broke through to touch down and give Sam Osborne an easy conversion and minutes later Alan Walters cut through from half way and slipped the ball at pace for Harris to finish off and Osborne added the conversion. At 40 minutes, Harris did likewise for Osborne to finish and he again added the conversion from in front of the post for a 26-3 lead at the interval. In the second half, with the marginal benefit of a slight slope, Old Cs attempted to increase the work-rate and severely tested Yatton's defence, but from a Yatton breakaway, Osborne landed a penalty when an Old Cs player was yellow carded. However, the visitors came back strongly and their kick and chase was adjudged to have been interfered with, resulting in a Yatton player being sin-binned and a penalty-try being awarded and Anderson added the conversion.Minutes later, Anderson's speculative long-range penalty conversion attempt bounced back into play off an upright and Osborne converted his second penalty soon after and just before the end, Phil Morgan raced down the wing for the final try. This win edges Yatton away from the league's basement clubs.
