IN the annual Winscombe Schools Tag Rugby Tournament, 11 teams contested in the Year 3-4 and Year 5-6 competitions. In the Year 3-4 contest, it soon became clear that Wedmore were the team to beat. Great organisation and quick running left them top of the pool stage and meeting Blagdon in the final. Blagdon played well, but Wedmore were just too strong and lifted the trophy. Meanwhile, Sandford's younger players took on Banwell in the Plate final, eventually winning an enthralling match by just one try.In the Year 5-6 competition, the running was between Sandford and Winscombe, both of whom had entered two teams. At the end of the pool phase, both Winscombe teams were through, and one of the Sandford sides, and they were joined by a plucky Banwell team in the semi-finals. Eventually the final was played between last year's winners Sandford and Winscombe, with Sandford emerging from an excellent match nine tries to seven up. Winscombe did not go home empty handed, as their other team defeated Banwell to lift the plate. The club would like to thank all those who helped with this year's tournament, especially the volunteer coaches who gave up time to coach the school teams during the term. Any schools who would like to enter next year are invited to contact Winscombe RFC.
