THIS Sunday sees the 40th anniversary of Weston Motor Club's unique speed event held on Weston Sands and known as Sandocross.

First held in 1970, the format has changed little over the years and this event still remains the only speed event on sand on the UK mainland and it always presents a challenge to the competitors.

This year there are more than 60 entries and there is sure to be some exciting drives amongst the wide variety of competing cars. Watch out for some stirring performances from the 4wd Vauxhall Corsa of Roger Brunt, the specials of local man Mark Carrow and Colin Anderson all in Class E and last year's Autocross champion, Chris Butler from Locking, in his amazing MG Maestro in Class D. And watch out for the speed of the Phil Kempthorne's Mini in Class B.

There are several more local Weston MC members amongst the competitors including regular winners Tony and Lois Miller in their 1800cc Fiesta, Glen Williams in a Vauxhall Tigra, Pete Donnachie in a Ford Puma and father and son Colin and Richard Knott in a 2.5 litre Mondeo. And we must not forget the junior drivers' class where we have three under-age drivers showing how to drive a Metro, a |Corsa and a Nova.

Spectators are welcome and the action starts at 10am.
