Sports mind performance coach Sarah Flourentzou has set up a couch to 5k beginners running group, following her decision to get fit.
Sarah Flourentzou, who is a trained counsellor and sports mind performance coach, decided to give up smoking a year ago, wanting to get fit and healthy and set a good example to her family and all she works with.
Deciding to go out running as a simple way to get fit, Sarah found it hard, but was determined to stick at it and set a goal of running a half marathon and only two weeks into running, had entered herself into the Severn Bridge Half Marathon, giving herself six months to get fit.
Sarah’s new found interest in running led to an opportunity to run with Ben Smith, the challenge runner who ran 401 marathons in 401 days to raise awareness of anti-bullying, creating running records and wining a Pride of Britain Award.
Sarah has since run several half marathons including Severn Bridge, Weston, Cardiff, Forrest of Dean and other running events, while inspiring others around her to take up running as a way to get fit and live a healthier lifestyle.
This has led her to set up a couch to 5K beginners running group called Flo&Co, made up of friends and family members that are all wanting to make their own personal lifestyle improvements.
The group members have progressed from no running to now running in the local Park Run 5k events in Burnham and Bristol.
Sarah entered the Blackpool Marathon and completed the marathon without stopping in a time four hours 33 minutes and was over the moon and relived to cross the finish line.
Sarah said: “I have definitely got the running bug and would like to thank my partner James Lucas for supporting and running every step of the way with me so far, Portishead Running Club who made us feel so welcome when running with them and Ben Smith.
Thanks also for the support Flo&Co members have given back to me when training for the marathon.”
