A CHEDDAR rugby team has made a great start to the year by claiming the Somerset County Cup.
The Kings of Wessex School year nine group remained unbeaten throughout their campaign in both friendly fixtures and cup games.
The semi final was held at Haygrove School in Bridgwater and after a keenly contested half the boys took home a brilliant score of 29-5.
Then at the final, at North Petherton RFC, the team took on Kingsmead School in Wiveliscombe.
The first half was a nervy affair with mistakes and errors from both sides interrupting the flow of the game.
But eventually the Kings team clinched the title with a 22-17 win.
Headteacher Chris Richardson said: "I am delighted with our boys' win. This is a wonderful triumph for the team who have played with great energy and enthusiasm this season.
"I also thank our PE teacher Terry Clark for his skilful coaching.
