NORTH Somerset Schools' Under-14 football squad returned from the 22nd annual English Schools' FA festival, based on the Isle of Wight, with an undefeated record of three victories and a draw.

The festival attracted 17 representative teams from throughout the country from Jersey to Bishop Auckland, with three other teams travelling from the mainland to give all participating teams four games.

North Somerset opened their programme with a thrilling 3-3 draw with Cleveland side, Hartlepool. Hartlepool led three times only for North Somerset to gain a deserved draw.

After falling behind, North Somerset equalised through Matt Jones and he scored again early in the second half. Hartlepool went ahead for the third time but in the last minute, a Callum Ham corner picked out Andy Cooper who headed on for Matt Ingersent to score.

On the second day, the squad took on Isle of Wight squad and after an even first half took control after the interval to win 4-1. A first-minute goal from a free kick by Tom Fowler put North Somerset ahead but the island team responded quickly and only a fine save by keeper Seb Zoronza kept the sides level at the break.

After half-time, substitute Joe Tucker gave them the lead from Jordan Davies' floated ball into the penalty box. After 67 minutes, Matt Jones latched on to a through ball from Ryan Bell-Langford to score the third and, in the last minute, a header by Taro Viner from another Davies' cross just crossed the line.

Against Spen Valley from Yorkshire, North Somerset started slowly and it was not until after half time they got into their stride.

A quick break saw Matt Jones and Jordan Cole link up well for Cole to score and soon afterwards, a great move involving Herrington, Ingersent, Bell-Langford, Jaroz and Brown saw Cole score his second.

The squad finished the week in style as they competed against a Cambridge side who were previously undefeated. Just before the break, top scorer Matt Jones put them ahead from a chance created by Jake Brown and Steve Jarosz.

Man of the match Taro Viner helped keep North Somerset in command despite Cambridge fighting hard and five minutes from time, Jones scored a superb solo goal.
