WESTON Wheelers had a good show for the Seafront Crits morning events and the afternoon. The morning was divided up for the younger riders and the afternoon for the rest. Both the smaller Chmiewliskis took part in the schools events and both came away with second places in their age group. Steve was the only Wheeler to take part in the third-fourth category race due to Rob Heathcote pulling out with a bad back. The race was 45 minutes and one lap. Right from the start the speed was quite high. It was good to see some familiar faces like Gerry Bowditch, John Russell and the guys from Team Tor. After several laps there were three distinct groups where the peloton had split. Luckily Steve was in the front group and doing his fair share on the front. Steve and a number of other riders tried to go clear but were soon pulled back into the group. This is the way it stayed until around three laps to go. One rider went clear from the main bunch, and with no-one willing to work, he soon gained enough time to stay away to the finish. On the final lap Steve was well placed in the main bunch and on the final U-turn was holding sixth place. With the last two corners coming up, Steve went down the inside of the bunch and broke clear for the sprint to the finish getting second place overall. The main bunch were only four seconds behind.Everyone is to be congratulated from NSCDS for putting on the event. It was good to see the racing in the town again. Well done everyone.
