WESTON-S-MARE 2BROMLEY 1CONTINUING their resurgence, Weston gave another commanding performance in a game where the scoreline belies their dominance.Man of the match Marc McGregor, on another day, could easily come away with a hat-trick having hit a post, having a goal-bound header finger-tipped over and watching his 20-yard free kick come back into play off the underside of the Bromley crossbar, all in the first half.Straight from the kick-off, Adi Harris played the ball wide to Manny Williams, whose pace took him past the Bromley defence, but his cross into the six-yard box was just missed by Marvin Brown. Then on eight minutes, Ben Wells was just off target from Brown's pass. The pressure paid off a minute later when Weston were awarded a free kick just inside the Bromley half. Craig Rand connected with Wells' kick and headed back across goal for Alex Kite to head past keeper Gareth Williams for his first goal for the club.Manny Williams had a run from inside his own half stopped by a last-ditch tackle on 14 minutes and later he fired just over from McGregor's pass. Wells forced a good save from Gareth Williams from another Manny lay-off on 23 minutes.Although they managed to force a couple of corners, much against the run of play Bromley equalised on 36 minutes when Luke I'Anson beat Ryan Northmore from 20 yards with their only meaningful shot on target of the game as the home defence sat back.Gareth Williams did well to keep out Charlie Comyn-Platt's effort in stoppage time that took a wicked deflection.Weston struck again on 52 minutes when Kite burst down the right, beat a defender and cut in along the bye-line. His deep cross was turned back across goal by Wells for Brown to score from eight yards with a diving header.Minutes later Jack Compton replaced Manny Williams who had picked up a dead leg and with his first touch shaved the foot of a Bromley post. Minutes later, he forced another good save from Gareth Williams, but picked up a nasty ankle injury and was stretchered off to sympathetic applause. After an X-ray at Weston General Hospital, it was diagnosed as damaged ligaments, which may keep him sidelined for the remainder of the season. In five minutes of stoppage time, Bromley forced a couple of corners, but the home defence with Rand and Comyn-Platt in commanding form, held out for a deserved victory.WESTON STATSGoals: Weston, Kite (9), Brown (52).
