BOREHAM WOOD 6

WESTON-S-MARE 3

IN an extraordinary match at Meadow Park, Boreham recorded only their second win of the season and lifted themselves off the bottom of the Blue Square South over a Weston side that scored twice in the first seven minutes.

The countryside on both sides of the M4 was covered in heavy frost and snow as far as Reading, but after that there was no sign of the recent bad weather and although the pitch was hard and a bit slippery, the game was played in excellent conditions.

Weston went on the attack from the first whistle and took the lead in the second minute when Justin Porter, unmarked on the left, laid on a through pass to Marcus Duharty who easily beat home keeper Ashlee Jones. Five minutes later, they struck again when Boreham central defender Luke Wilkinson missed a clearance and Duharty rushed in on Jones, who had come off his line. However, the keeper’s poor clearance fell to Nat Pepperell who fired into the empty net from the edge of the penalty area.

After that Boreham took control, with influential skipper Mario Noto bossing the midfield, and he reduced the arrears on 13 minutes with a 25-yard effort to finish a flowing move involving Greg Morgan and Ali Chaaban. Keeping up the pressure, Weston keeper Lloyd Irish made a superb point-blank double save to deny Elliott Godfrey and then conceded a corner off Gareath Risbridger and from the flag kick, Chaaban equalised on 30 minutes.

As Weston tried to get back into the game, they forced their first corner on 33 minutes and a minute later, Dayle Grubb was just over with a distance effort and early in the second half, Pepperell forced Weston’s second corner with a low effort.

With the Weston defence up to support Jamie Laird’s corner, Noto led a breakout and fed unmarked Morgan to beat Irish and put Boreham ahead for the first time on 57 minutes. Five minutes later, Morgan s truck again when put through by Risbridger and on 66 minutes, Nicky Nicolau struck with a 25-yard effort.

Weston brought on Ben Kirk for Porter Sahr Kabba for Dean Grubb and Pepperell got his second goal of the evening from the penalty spot on 68 minutes when Kabba was brought down, earning a yellow card for Wilkinson.

As Weston pressed t o try to reduce the arrears, they left themselves open at t he back and Nicolau completed the scoring on 80 minutes with another breakaway goal.
