Weston Football Club have been drawn away to Bristol Manor Farm in next seson’s Somerset Premier Cup.

WESTON, holders of the Somerset Premier Cup, have been given a bye into the second round for the new season’s competition.

In the second round they have been drawn away to Bristol Manor Farm of the Toolstation Premier League and the game is due to be played in the week commencing Monday, November 7.

Yeovil Town, runners-up to Weston, have been drawn away to Keynsham Town, also of the Toolstation League, in the first round, to be played in the week commencing Monday, October 3. In another first round game, Clevedon Town have home advantage against Bridgwater Town.

At the annual meeting of the Conference Football League, held at Newport on Saturday last, Rushton and Diamonds were expelled from the league due to financial irregularities.

It is understood the club owes up to 750,000 and was facing a winding-up order at Northampton County Court earlier this week.

The expulsion of Rushton, who since their foundation in 1992 when footwear manufacturing millionaire Mr Max Griggs took over the amalgamation of Rushton Town and Irthlingborough Diamonds, reached Division 2 of the Football League in 2003, has repercussions throughout the league.

Southport, destined for life in the Conference North, have been reprieved from relegation and Thurrock, relegated from Conference South to the Zamaretto Premier League, have also been reprieved and will continue to be one of Weston’s opponents in the new season.

To make up for the shortfall in Conference North, Bishop’s Stortford, also one of Weston’s opponents in Conference South, will move to the North division.
