IN a game dominated by both defences, Weston extended their unbeaten Blue Square South run to three games and the point moves them up to the top half of the table.

In the first half, Weston played some positive possession football, finding men with low passes, but in the final third of the pitch could not break down Hampton’s David Stevens, skipper Dean Wells and Jeffrey Orlando, while at the other end, home skipper Craig Rand, Matt Villis, Jamie Price and Jamie Laird broke up every Hampton attack.

Hampton’s Charlie Moone was well over with a free kick on 24 minutes and 10 minutes later, Price, with a run from his own half, was in on goal, but Hampton keeper Matt Lovett came off his line to claim. Kane Ingram fired narrowly across goal on 43 minutes, but he was offside.

The first shot on target of the game came on 56 minutes when Moone burst through, but Seagulls’ keeper Lloyd Irish saved well. Hampton came close on 63 minutes when, from their third corner, Wells headed against the angle of post and bar from Barrie Matthews’ kick.

Last week’s Weston hero Sahr Kabba replaced Laird, who had picked up a knock in an earlier clash with Hampton’s Danny Allen-Page, and partnered Marcus Duharty up front with Martin Slocombe slotting into the defence. Brett Trowbridge replaced Dean Grubb on 69 minutes and Nat Pepperell, back after missing three games through injury, came on for Duharty 79 minutes.

Hampton substitute Dave Tarpey had a strong effort on the turn well claimed by Irish and at the other end, Kabba chased a long ball to the bye-line and his cross into the six-yard box was turned behind by Lovett and Pepperell closed in.

Hampton were given a great chance minutes into stoppage time when they were awarded a free kick on the edge of the Weston penalty area, but Wells sent an unmarked header over the crossbar from Tarpey’s kick.
