Team Bath 3

WESTON senior squad's pre-season good form continued with another solid and encouraging performance against Team Bath.

Weston took an early two-goal lead in the first quarter through Liam Coles and a fine goal from junior Curtis Watkins.

Bath pulled one back early in the second quarter and continued to threaten, but Weston defended extremely well with Steve Etchells and Matt Vincent looking organised and Martin Maloney made some fine saves and looked solid all game in goal. Weston then scored a breakaway goal through Coles and ended the quarter still with a two-goal lead.

Weston started the third quarter strongly and dominated possession and more goals came through Kyle Maloney and Matt Vincent who returned after a number of years out of the game. Bath managed to pull a goal back through a well-worked move.

At the start of the fourth quarter the score was 5-2 and Weston started the stronger with Vincent scoring his second and then winning a penalty which Coles converted. Bath then scored a reply and started to put pressure on the Weston goal, but could not find another way past the tight and organised defence.

There were many fine performances in the Weston side, Torbes and Edwards swam the opposition all over the pool and created chances and Watkins showed much maturity but the man of the match (sponsored by the Woolpack Inn) was Liam Coles.

A reminder that the Christmas meal is on December 18. All players past and present welcome and junior training is on at Hutton Moor on Sundays at 6pm. Please contact Mike Coles for more information on both.
