Weston 2Exeter University B 10WITH all the Exeter University sides either first or second in their leagues, Weston knew they were facing a tough challenge. Straight from the start the University showed their intentions by retaining the ball well, using all parts of the pitch and working really hard off the ball to create space. But Weston worked hard and managed to contain the University side and restrict any chances on goal. In the first 15 minutes Weston took the lead with a quick breakaway goal which Chris Brees fired home. Exeter upped the pressure and capitalised on two simple mistakes at the back by Brendon Summers and Dave Holland to allow them to take the lead. A third was added before half-time when a cruel deflection off Toby Brees' foot took the score to 3-1. In the second half, Weston continued to cause Exeter some problems in defence. Ashley Woolmington, Matt Kearsey and Gareth Hawkes created good chances and forced good saves from the Exeter keeper. The difference in the second half was marked with Exeter fully utilising their five substitutes as they continued to create chances and convert them. It was difficult to see how Exeter had managed to lose four games this season. The Walker and Ling man of the match Ashley Woolmington added a late consolation goal.
