Weston win their first match of the season, at home to Bridgend.
WESTON played their first home game of the season and were hoping for a win after two disappointing away losses.
Weston started the first half well, dominating the midfield area. Captain Chris Fletcher-Cullum opened the scoring for Weston, sweeping the ball into the net from a short corner routine.
After half time, Fletcher-Cullum led by example and scored two more goals to complete his hat-trick, both coming as a result of great work by Stuart Lanham and Matthew Bearsby.
However, Bridgend did not roll over and won several short corners. Fortunately for Weston, Rob O’Neill in goal was determined to keep a clean sheet and was aided by a great defensive display from Sytner Mercedes-Benz man of the match Mike Craig.
With 10 minutes to go and with Bridgend desperate to score, Matt Bond, newly recruited this season from Bristol, found space and Fletcher- Cullum played an exquisite 30-yard pass to pick Matt out and leave him to easily tuck away Weston’s fourth.
Robinsons C 3
Weston A 3
The A team made a promising start and were soon rewarded with a goal from Jack Pitt after good work by Slater and Webb. A second goal followed soon after when Kearsey scored from a short corner.
Robinsons then started to control the midfield and scored to reduce the deficit at half-time.
After the break, Robinsons piled on the pressure and Weston had a number of short corners given against them. Godwin in goal made a great double save when Robinsons looked sure to score and Duckett managed to stop a lifted shot from crossing the line.
Kearsey caused the opposition prolems throughout the match and against the run of play scored an individual goal to make it 3-1 to Weston. Robinsons then scored an excellent goal from the top of the D and then equalised from a short corner.
Mercedes-Benz of Weston man of the match was Matt Kearsey.
