Weston got off to a slow start against Whitchurch, going 3-0 down in the first half.

Weston 1st XI 1 Whitchurch 3

WESTON entered their fourth match high off the win of the previous week.

Unfortunately, it was not the successful game they were hoping it to be. Whitchurch started the game well and before Weston had the chance to recover from the long journey into South Wales, Whitchurch scored three goals in the first half.

After a tactical team talk and a change of players and positions, Weston came back in the second half with a fighting spirit. This was led by the Sytner Mercedes-Benz man of the match Sam Neate.

With this much needed competitive drive, Weston soon scored their first goal of the match, ably put away by Dave Beer. Weston continued to pressure throughout the second half, but they were unable to convert their pressure into goals.

Despite their failure to get any points out of the game, the second half performance showed huge improvement and suggests a long-awaited clean sheet is a realistic possibility.

Weston Ladies 1st X1 3 Taw Valley 0

WESTON travelled to Taw Valley for what turned out to be a weekend of successful hockey, sun and surf.

Weston took the game to the home team from the off. With the majority of the play, Weston spent a lot of time in their opponents’ D and finally beat Taw Valley’s defence with a great ball from Laura Draycott, quickly passed from Charlie Dale into Nikki Baker, who put the ball in the back of the net with a reverse flick.

Taw broke through a handful of times, but with no success as Weston’s defence were solid throughout. Just before half-time, a cross from Dale met Tux’s swinging stick, sending the ball into the back of the net.

The second half remained much the same with Weston having most of the play. Nikki, Rosie and Lucy worked hard up front and were rewarded by another reverse goal scored by Baker to put Weston 3-0 up at full time.

The Mercedes Benz of Weston man of match went to Charli Crandon.
