CHURCHILL were in confident mood against Tickenham United and started as they had against Street taking an early 3-1 lead.

However, wholesale half-time changes (including the whole back four) by manager Tim Richens, saw the game slip away.

Richens started with Guy Banwell, Dan Nelson, Nathan Giles and Elliot Nelson. The midfield was made up of skipper Paul Dolbear, Matt Lacey and Tom Fozzard. Joe Kay and Matt Duncan were joined up top by Ash Giles.

Churchill took the lead when Kay cut in and smashed the ball home past the keeper. Churchill were looking calm in defence and Chris James untroubled, until a Tickenham striker nipped in to make the scores level.

The home side replied quickly as Kay broke off the left wing and his deflected shot found the back of the net. A superb one-two between Banwell and Duncan saw Banwell finish superbly to give Churchill a 3-1 lead.

Richens made nine changes at the break, but a nightmare spell of 15 minutes saw Tickenham score four unanswered goals.

AFTER a mixed start to the season with the first half teams winning and the whole squad demonstrating its lack of depth, Churchill won for the second Saturday in a row against the South Somerset side.

Churchill lined up with a new formation to suit the players available in a 3-4-3 shape with a back line of Joe Grant, Elliot Nelson and John Tee Boon protecting keeper, Chris James. A clean sheet was reward for a lot of hard work and organisation.

In midfield, man of the match Guy Banwell was a constant danger, linked up with Nathan Giles, Paul and Matt Lacey.

The front three of Matt Duncan, Tom Fozzard and new signing Damien were a threat throughout. Fozzard not only worked hard without the ball, but had the honour of opening the scoring. Giles also got reward for his hard work as he scored a cheeky free kick to double the lead.

Half-time saw changes by manager Tim Richens, with Ash Giles, Alex Swain and Kev Pearce coming on.
