Weston seconds were comprehensively beaten at home by Corsham.

WESTON second team came a comprehensive second best against Corsham at Devonshire Road.

Batting first, all of the top six made starts however, none of Sean Stringer (17), Matt Blamire (12), Sam Curley (18), Tom Ford (19), Jon Lawrence (25) or Sam Goodhew (10) were able to go on to make the big score needed, especially once Craig Chaplin (5-21) was introduced to the attack as Weston were bowled out for 151 in the 44th over.

In reply, Corsham got off to a steady start despite a good spell of bowling from Declan McNulty (7-0-20-0). Blamire (9-0-43-1) removed Abbott for 29, but Field (60 not out) and Davis (50 not out) took the visitors home with 10 overs remaining.

IntouchCRM man of the match went to Jon Lawrence.

THE third team fared little better than the seconds as they collapsed to a heavy defeat against top of the table Banwell & Churchill.

Dominic Bush (5-18) ripped through the top order with an excellent display of swing bowling. With only Tom Dancey (20), Matt Huxtable (13) and Stu Roberts (13) reaching double figures, Weston buckled to 75 all out on an excellent batting wicket.

In reply, Carter and former Weston youth player Jones set out with intent for an early finish. It took the introduction of Dancey (4-0-9-1) to account to Jones thanks to an outstanding catch from Roberts, but it was the only wicket to fall.

IntouchCRM man of the match was Tom Dancey.

LOSING the toss, Weston Eaglets were asked to field on a hot day and made heavy work of taking wickets.

Banwell’s openers progressed at a steady rate with Legg (34) and Masters (80) looking untroubled. Weston did make breakthroughs with Terry Horler (7-0-32-3) the main wicket taker, along with an excellent direct run out from Jack Press and looked like they might take control of the innings.

The introduction of Burgess (59 not out) with powerful hitting to all parts deflated Weston as Banwell ending up with 245-5.

Weston’s reply got off a decent start with the top three in double figures, Weston’s top scorer Ben Evans (52) kept them in touch with the rate with some fine batting in partnership with Jon Mayo (43), but Banwell took wickets regularly and at seven down the game looked beyond the home team.

Some fine late hitting from Josh Plaister (44 not out) supported by Georgia Tulip (15 not out) secured maximum batting points as Weston got over 200 runs, but fell short of the Banwell target ending up on 207-7 wickets.

Pick of the Banwell bowlers were the Masters brothers, taking five of the seven Weston wickets between them.

InTouchCRM man of the match went to Ben Evans.

WESTON’S senior weekend ended with a victory as the Sunday XI ran out easy winners by 106 runs against Beckington in the Sunday Conference Division 4.

The team largely made up of development players from the junior ranks batted first with useful runs from Dan Press (32) and Matt Kearsey (41), but a dominant 104 not out from Jon Mayo was to prove decisive, supported by number nine Bradley Lucas (5 not out), taking Weston to a competitive 253-8.

In reply, Beckington started swiftly with Kiwi opener Dwight dispatching the bowling to all parts and he soon scored 50. Wickets were falling at the other end with regularity however and Dwight was running out of partners.

Pick of the Weston bowlers was Lucas with 7-0-21-4. When Dwight fell for a fine 105 off the bowling of Alex Leeks, who took two wickets in his one over, Weston quickly wrapped up the innings with Tahmid Ahmed taking the final wicket.

IntouchCRM man of the match was Jon Mayo.
