Weston seconds’ poor season continued as they suffered an eight wicket defeat at home to Corsham.

WESTON seconds’ struggles continued as they went down to an eight-wicket defeat at home to Corsham.

Batting first after losing the toss, Corsham soon made inroads into a Weston top order, missing a number of regulars through injury, holidays and work commitments, as the hosts slipped to 30-5.

The fightback was led by Sam Curley (42), Adam Davies (19) and Simon Turner (14 not out). However, the 115 they managed to muster always looked well below par on a good wicket.

Corsham went on the attack from the start of their innings. Adam Mitchell’s belligerent 60 from 46 balls being the main protagonist, who was eager to get the runs knocked off before any rain arrived.

Two late wickets from Tom Ford (2.4-0-26-2) earned Weston a bowling point. However, it was to prove too little too late as Corsham sailed across the line in only the 15th over.

Intouch CRM man of the match was Sam Curley.

THE 3rd XI lost out by six wickets at Frome 2nds. After losing the toss and being asked to bat on a wicket wet from overnight rain, Weston soon lost skipper Tom Dancey in the first over. Pete Hooper (37) and Harry Wiseman (25) rebuilt the innings, but when both were dismissed in quick succession, closely followed by Andy Chambers. Weston were in trouble.

Ben Dancey (52) turned the tables, top scoring for a second consecutive week, but with little support from the lower order, who contributed just 15 runs between them, Weston were all out for 149.

In reply, some poor fielding saw the opening attack of Dan Lomax (9-3-20-0) and Declan McNulty (6-0-24-0) unlucky not to pick up a couple of wickets. The introduction of Tom Dancey (8-2-25-2) and Rhys Crocker (4-0-22-1) slowed the run rate, but a good partnership built between Dredge (46) and Gullock (32), saw Frome home, despite a late wicket from Matt Humphrey (7-0-45-1).

IntouchCRM man of the match went to Ben Dancey.

THE fourth team hosted local rivals Uphill at a windy Broadoak. Weston won the toss and asked Uphill to bat first.

Weston’s attack took wickets regularly and shared them across bowlers - Georgia Tulip, Jamie Dance, Terry Horler and Henry Court with one each and two for Aaron Stone and Paul Skinner.

Holding all but one of their catches, the fielding was excellent, topped off by four catches for Josh Hussey as Uphill were all out for 99.

Openers Ren Bosman (14) and Stone started steadily, Stone riding his luck, being dropped four times on his way to 22. Dan Press and Jon Mayo were dismissed without adding to the total and it was left to the experience of Skinner (25 not out) and the youth of Under-13 player Aniraj Sapra (16 not out) to bring Weston home inside 28 overs.

InTouchCRM man of the match was Josh Hussey.
