Weston 2nd XI won their third game of the season at a canter against Taunton Deane.

WESTON seconds travelled to Taunton Deane looking for their third win and duly obliged, cantering home by nine wickets.

Captain Tom Ford won the toss and put Deane into bat. The got a good start with an early Tom Court wicket (7-1-20-2). However, home captain Sam Burgess took Taunton up to 60-2.

Superb bowling from Jalal Ahmed (7-0-21-3) and Matt Blamire (8.3-1-26-4) brought Taunton to a collapse, finishing the innings on 110 all out.

Ford and Ahmed opened the batting before tea and quickly took to the Taunton bowlers with impressive ball striking from Ford.

Ford was caught for a fine 63, but with Ahmed (27 not out) still at the crease and only 15 runs to get, it was left to 14-year-old Dan Press on his second team debut to finish the game off for a comfortable victory for Weston.

THE 3rd XI’s inconsistent start to the season continued as they lost by six wickets to Cheddar 2nds.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, Weston captain Tom Dancey’s 70 provided the backbone of the innings. Dancey was well supported by the returning Mark Bissex (26), Dom Mayo (22) and his brother Ben (37 not out) in Weston’s total of 183-7.

In reply, Cheddar got off to a poor start as Tom Chambers (1-31) bowled Childs for four. Stu Roberts (1-59) removed visiting captain Kent for 17 soon after, but Houghton batted superbly for an excellent 48 to keep the visitors in the game, supported by Peverall (38).

Mehlig’s (58) lusty hitting took the game beyond the home side, despite two wickets for Tom Dancey’s off spin (2-27), one of which was a fine catch from Dec McNulty, as Cheddar got over the line with four overs to spare.

THE 4th XI visited Huntspill & District 2nds looking to build on a good start to the season with another win.

Losing the toss Weston were asked to bat and quickly lost opener Fin Mayo, which brought Ben Evans to the crease. Together with Jack Press (36), playing a supporting role, Evans set about the Huntspill bowling eventually falling just seven short of his 100.

Quick runs from Jon Mayo (22), Alex Leeks (15 not out) and Terry Horler (7 not out) saw Weston end on 198.

Rhys Crocker (10-1-25-1), Georgia Tulip (5.1-1-17-3), Leeks (6-2-18-1), Jamie Dance (8-2-20-3) and Horler (8-2-22-2) all took wickets as Weston recorded an excellent win by 88 runs and now sit third in the league.
