The District League defeated the Wrington Vale League by just seven pins at the Claverham Club.

THE District League defeated the Wrington Vale League by just seven pins at the Claverham Club.

Wrington started well with Clint Harding hitting a spare on the first hand, but Andy Collard replied with a 15 spare. Not to be outdone, Harding recorded his second spare on the third hand as he went on to be the highest man scorer Wrington in the first set with 52, but in response Collard bettered him with 54 for Weston.

Special mention to Ryan Jones in his second game at this level as the District took a one-pin advantage into the second set.

Like the first set, C Banneman hit a good 16 spare on his first hand, but Adam Brueford hit a 12 spare, while Steve Barker hit a 15 spare. With Brueford getting a 18 spare and with Ian Norton hitting a 12 spare on the last hand, the District finished 16 pins up in the game.

Top score for Wrington was Banneman with 54, while for the District, Brueford hit 59, Norton 54 and Barker 50.

In the last set, captain Andy Harris started with a 15 spare for the Wrington team. Also hitting spares for Wrington were Steve Hucker (14) and Keith Hann (14). No spares were hit in this set by the District team, but with Phil Dean hitting 50, the District held on to win by seven. Hucker finished with 53 and Harris with 50.

NEWLY-formed team The Lions, beat previous Central Skittles League cup and league winners Belvedere in a close game.
