Weston ladies and Winscombe met for the first time in several seasons and played out an exciting 3-3 draw.

WESTON ladies took on Winscombe at
Priory Community School and the local derby ended in an exciting 3-3 draw.

It has been a few seasons since Weston and Winscombe have met, and both teams were looking for a win.

Winscombe took the lead when a mix-up in Weston’s defence gifted them a goal. Weston’s defence worked tirelessly as Winscombe had most of the possession in the first half.

Weston fought back and striker Nicola Baker individually battled in the D to beat one defender and flick the ball in the back of the net to get Weston back on level terms. Winscombe were gifted another goal not long after to put them back in the driving seat. The ball rebounded off a defender’s stick for Sarah Holland to score.

Winscombe piled on the pressure and scored another goal giving them a 3-1 lead.

Despite trailing, the Weston girls battled for the remaining 35 minutes. Good work by Tina Delaney, new skipper Charli Crandon, Michelle Tuxford and Baker helped Weston pull a goal back, Lucy Clarke and Charlie Dale both claiming the goal.

With Weston only trailing by one goal, it led to a shot being saved by the keeper and then slotted home by Clarke to bring the sides level.

The club would like to thank all the supporters and hope for the same again in their next home game, which is on November 5 at noon against Cheddar.

This week’s Mercedes Benz player of the match was awarded to Tina Delaney.
