Weston Ladies 1sts 6 Taunton Civil Service 2WESTON entertained Taunton Civil Service and started the game in sparkling form. They were 4-0 up within the first 15 minutes, having won the toss and elected to take first push back they attacked straight away. Excellent passing and movement by the team found them space to play and they were rewarded with their first goal when Rosie Bellinger lifted the ball over the keeper, and Laura Davies was on hand to make sure it crossed the line. Laura Davies got her second when she received a fine cross from Becky Watkins from the right to sweep the ball home. The third goal was a fine solo effort by Becky Watkins, whose weaving run was finished by an excellent shot to the roof of the net.As Weston pushed forward centre-back Charli Crandon supported the midfield and a quick one-two with Alex Naughalty saw Charli Crandon slip the ball past the outstretched keeper.Taunton CS regrouped and when they did get the ball to their fast forwards they caused the Weston defence problems, from one such move Anna Miller gave Taunton hope as she out-paced the defence and scored. Taunton added another just before half time through Cara Whitmore. At the restart Taunton pressed hard, but fine defending and great goalkeeping by Sarah Langley-Wheeler kept them out. The game was stopped for 10 minutes due to floodlight failure and this seemed to suit Weston who played out the final 15 minutes as they had started the game. Rosie Bellinger scored Weston's fifth when she picked a long ball from Vanessa Mawford, beat the defender and finished excellently. Weston's final goal was a brilliantly-worked team effort, which was started in defence and fine passing resulted in Alex Naughalty lifting the ball into the net. This was an excellent performance which showed the team's potential. Player of the match was awarded to Becky Watkins, also special mention for Nikki Baker who grows in confidence with every game.
