Avon Ski Club members set new personal best times and points scored at a recent meeting.

AVON Ski Club entered 16 racers into their A team and joint team with Exeter club, both teams having a really good days racing, with some personal best times and points scores.

Greatly improved race times from Paige Thomas and Aimee Thomas-Jeffries, saw the girls move up the rankings, and three out of three head-to-head wins in the afternoons dual slalom, saw Callum Black (under-9s) score his highest points so far, 24 out of a maximum 29, and second only to George Case on 26 (under-12s).

Both Paige Thomas and Lauren Black (both under-12s) also won all three of their head-to-head races, no mean feat against older opposition.

Good point scores were also recorded by Christian Plaster (23), Oliver McMorran (23) and Lauren Tamea on (22), her highest points score so far.

Overall, Avon are lying in fifth place and Avon/Exeter in sixth place, with three more race meetings to go.

The day took an unexpected turn at the lunch break, when to everyone’s delight the regions two skiing Olympic torch bearers took to the dual slalom course, for a pedestrian ski down, bearing their torches.

Malcolm Plaster from the Avon Club was nominated for his many years of dedication to coaching younger ski racers, was joined by Beth South, from the Torquay Ski Club.

It was also confirmed on the day, that the company behind the proposed snowdome in Weston have now bought the slope at Gloucester, and have ambitious plans.

Avon Ski Club are taking a team of children to train in the world’s largest snowdome, Landgraaf, in Holland, to train alongside the Swiss ladies’ teams and then Spanish men’s teams.
