The Somerset Rebels started the new season with victory at Peterborough in the Premier League Cup.

THE Cases Somerset Rebels opened their season with a 47-43 victory over the Peterborough Panthers in a group match in the Premier League Cup.

For the Rebels Josh Grajczonek put in a true captain’s innings, dropping only a single point to an opponent, and topping off the meeting with his exceptional heat 15 ride. He was ably supported by Brady Kurtz, with an 11-point haul, but in truth every member of the team contributed to the victory in some part, with the exception of the unfortunate Benji Compton, whose second ride crash took away his chance of being part of the win.

The tapes go up on the opening match at the Oaktree Arena tomorrow night (Fri) when the Rebels take on the 2014 Elite League cChampions, the Poole Pirates in a special season-opening challenge match, the meeting being jointly sponsored by PC Comms and Curtis Sport.

Somerset have been boosted with the news that Benji Compton has recovered from his spill in Sunday’s match a Peterborough. The 28-year-old was released from hospital somewhat battered and bruised, but otherwise none the worse for wear.
