The Southern Football League will officially return on Saturday December 12, after 59 per cent of teams voted in a questionnaire, providing the lockdown finishes on Tuesday December 2.

However, should any club wish to restart on either Saturday December 5, the following midweek or play matches on both dates the league would have no objection.

“We were one of 35 per cent of clubs who responded to a questionnaire some weeks ago, indicating we would like to restart playing on Saturday December 5,” said Weston director and secretary, Richard Sloane.

“Our opponents that day should be Farnborough FC away. If they decide not to go ahead with that match because the official restart is December 12, the Southern League have indicated they will attempt to find opponents for us.”

The Seagulls will have seven games postponed between November 5 and December 2 rescheduled and the league is looking to re-arrange as many matches called off during the lockdown period that would have experienced excessive travel times for a Saturday later in the season.

The season is still scheduled to finish on Saturday May 8, with the play-off semi-finals on Tuesday May 11 and play-off finals on the weekend of May 15-16.

Subject to Government guidelines, Weston's FA Trophy encounter with Chesham United at The Optima Stadium will take place on Tuesday, December 8 at 7.45pm.

But the match at Farnborough on December 5 will be rearranged for a later date and means Weston will host Walton Casuals on December 12 in their first game back following lockdown.

“We can’t wait, we’ve missed it, we understand the reasons but it’s been difficult not being able to work and are desperate to get back and get going,” added manager Scott Bartlett.
