Speedway OK for more races

A SPEEDWAY ground has been granted permission to open one Saturday a year for national and international fixtures.

Speedway races and practices at the Oaktree Arena in Highbridge could only be held on Fridays, but Sedgemoor District Council has given permission for this to be extended to one Saturday.

Owner Bill Hancock said: “It is fantastic news as it is one of the best racetracks in the country.

“It is good for speedway spectators as they have a good chance of seeing riders they have never had the chance to see before.

“It’s also fantastic for the area to bring more people to the businesses around us.”
