FOR a number of years North Somerset Sports Council has presented awards for achievements in recognised sports to many individuals for Sportsman of the Year; Sportswoman of the Year; Sports Administrator of the Year.The Doug Atwell Trophy is awarded in recognition of individuals who actively encourage the youth throughout the district to participate in sport and, in doing so, promote good sportsmanship.The Sports Link Award is made to the sports club which has done most to promote club-school links.The Tom Tait Award is made in recognition of the most improved performance by a sportsman or sportswoman during the preceding year.The Sports Council is now seeking nominations for this year's awards, who must live within the district of North Somerset (clubs nominated must be located within North Somerset), and would welcome requests for nomination forms which should be directed to:-The Honorary Secretary, North Somerset Sports Council (Ref: DEJ), Town Hall, Weston-super-Mare BS23 1DZ. Alternatively, telephone David Jellings on (01275) 884219 for further information.Completed nomination forms must be returned no later than Tuesday, November 14, for consideration by North Somerset Sports Council.The presentation of the trophies will take place at an Awards Evening which is to be held at Weston Cricket Club, Devonshire Road, Weston, on Friday, December 8, at 7.30pm. All nominees will be invited to this occasion and all will receive a plaque by way of recognition of their achievements. The six winners of the trophies will be announced on the evening.
