WESTON St Johns Sports Bar defeated Kewstoke Lions on penalties in the Somerset Junior Cup.

The Bournville boys went behind to an early goal before inspirational captain Daniel Sprague drew them level. The returning Luke Page gave a trademark performance of non stop running and put the Bar in the lead before a late goal pegged them back.

Leon Brueford missed from the spot for the visitors and Paul Stewart pulled off a stunning stop to keep out Kewstoke danger man Darren Hancock’s effort.

Page, assitant manager Jon O’Brien, Kieran Marsden and Damon Godbeer were all successful for the Bar from the spot

The man of the match accolade, kindly sponsored by Edge Barbers was shared between Daniel Sprague and Paul Marsh.

WESTLANDS stretched their unbeaten run to four games after grinding out a victory against fellow strugglers Bournville Rovers.

Westlands started strongly and controlled the opening exchanges. Centre forward Stefan Russ powered home the first with a long range effort. Midway through the half Nick Bond scored his second in consecutive weeks to double the lead.

Soon after the restart, Bournville found a way back into the game through the penalty spot after Neil Sharp clumsily brought down an attacker in the area. This galvanised the home side and they pressed sensing an equaliser, but the back four led by Chris Cullis managed to stay firm.

Westlands too had their chances in the second half; the closest game to Alex White who struck the cross bar late on. This week’s man of the match went to Alex White.

KVFC 2 Worle Rangers 0

RUNNING into some indifferent form, Rangers were looking to get things back on track against KVFC, who they swept aside in the cup before Christmas.

The first half started well as the back four, superbly marshalled by captain John Imrie, provided a platform for Worle’s attacking players to shine. Liam Willment, Will Britton, Adam Brown, Marc Trewern and Chris Brinson were all prominent.

Dave Knight and Jamie Ingersent were more than a match for the KVFC midfield and Rangers threatened for the whole half with keeper Tom Williams only called upon to make one save.

Playing up the hill in the second half, Worle had to call upon strong defending from Imrie and Chris Horsnell and outstanding efforts from Jo Dale, Brinson and Ingersent to contain the hosts.

Worle were caught on the break and went behind after an unstoppable drive into the corner and KVFC scored a second after a poor clearance.

Imrie, Dale and Ingersent were all excellent, but the Curry Garden man of the match went to Liam Willment.
